What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy uses physical techniques to improve movement, reduce pain and stiffness, speed up the healing process and increase function and well-being. Physiotherapy helps through physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness.

Physiotherapists diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions of the bones, soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments), cardiovascular system, nerves and other parts of the body. They can help people to rehabilitate specific injuries, manage chronic diseases, prescribe exercises and aids to help people manage better, and give advice regarding managing their condition and overall lifestyle.

Do I need a referral?

No you don’t. Physiotherapists are primary care practitioners, which means you don’t require a GP or specialists referral to attend.

However, there are some exceptions to this. If your physiotherapy is to be funded through WorkCover, TAC, DVA or a Medicare care plan you will need an appropriate referral.

How do I book an appointment?

Call the clinic on (03) 5255 5755, book online through this website, or drop in to the clinic and chat to our friendly reception staff.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Nothing specifically, however if any of these are appropriate to your situation please bring them along:

Results of any investigations (x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT etc) that would be of benefit to your physiotherapist

Referral from GP, specialist, allied health practitioner

WorkCover / TAC claim details

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows access to and movement of the painful or injured area of the body. This allows for ease of assessment, understanding of your condition, and a better treatment. Towels will be used to maintain your privacy at all times.

What to expect at your initial appointment?

No two patients are the same, and therefore your appointment will always be tailored to you and your condition.

Firstly we will ask you a series of questions about your condition and overall health, before looking at the the painful or injured area, assessing your movements, and performing any specific tests we require to get a full picture of your condition. To properly assess your condition, it does mean that the vast majority of the time hands on contact is required.

Following this we will provide you with our diagnosis and talk you through the specific treatment plan. Physiotherapy treatment options include, but are not limited to:

Soft tissue massage / release

Joint mobilisation

Dry Needling

Home exercise program

Gym / Group exercise

Specific advice

Management you can do yourself

General exercise / appropriate activity

Return to sport / your normal activity

How long are appointments?

Initial consultations are 40 minutes, and standard consultations are 30 minutes. Initial consultations are a little longer to allow us enough time to thoroughly assess your injury and guide our treatment plan.

How much does an appointment cost?

Initial consultations are $110 (40 minutes), and standard consultations are $100 (30 minutes). If you have private health insurance with extras cover you will likely be able to claim a rebate. The Rehabilitation Movement is a Medibank Member’s Choice provider, and therefore if you are with Medibank you will be charged a lower rate.

Can I claim my private health insurance rebate on the spot?

Yes you can. We offer HICAPS on the spot claiming which supports most health insurance funds. To claim on the day of your appointment, you must present your health insurance card at the time of payment. Alternatively, an invoice can be issued to allow for self-claiming through your health insurance provider at a later time.
